Dear Parents and
Guardians:
Chickenpox (also
known as varicella) is usually a mild disease. Chickenpox can be more severe in
adults who have never had the disease, and can pose complications for pregnant
woman, and those with an immune system disease.
We are currently seeing chickenpox in
children who have been previously vaccinated against the disease, although the rash seems to be milder. Because of this we are asking that if your
child has a rash consisting of red dots anywhere on the face, arms, trunk or
legs that you keep your child home, and notify the Health Room. The spots may
continue to appear over several days. Children who get chickenpox must be
excluded from school until all
lesions have formed crusts on them. An
adult must accompany any child who has had chicken pox on their first day back
to school, and the nurses must first clear the child before he can return to
the classroom.
As always if you
have any questions please contact us or call your health care provider.
