Welcome to the Columbia School District website. I feel myself extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to work in Columbia. This district is staffed by a highly qualified faculty and staff and supported by involved parents. It is a partnership that focuses on the successes of each student. Our pre-K through 8 Porter School was named an “Excelling School” by the CT State Department of Education in recognition of its strong programs and the achievement of its students. This could only be achieved in a community that has created a safe learning environment that promotes excellence. Horace W. Porter School goes beyond the core curriculum areas by providing before and after school care programs, an elective-based afterschool program offering co-curricular choices, a sports program that competes in the local middle school league (fall, winter and spring), an instrumental and choral music program and a drama program that culminates in a spring production.
We are proud of our partnerships with Bolton, E. O. Smith and Windham Technical School each of which provides our 9-12 students with rigorous and student-centered programs. These schools offer choices to our students in terms of school size, academics, athletics and clubs, and college and career opportunities.
This website has been designed to give you access to information about our district including our vision and mission, our core values and our guiding principles. These elements of our Long-range Plan set the direction for the district over the next five years. In addition, there is valuable information on the site that enables you to link with the Porter and high school sites. There you will find the necessary forms and materials that you will need to be an involved parent as your child moves through our district.
We are always interested in your feedback about this site. Is it user-friendly? Is the information contained here useful? You can contact me with your comments and concerns at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 860 228 8590.
