Mrs. Alyssa Gwinnell


Educational Background Information:
Mrs. Gwinnell started at Porter as Assistant Principal in February 2012. In January of 2013 she became Principal after serving as interim for the beginning of the school-year. Prior to Porter, Mrs. Gwinnell taught at Timothy Edwards Middle School in South Windsor for 11 years. During her time there she taught Language Arts in grades 6-8th and Math in grade 6.  Mrs. Gwinnell has a BA in English from UConn, a BS in Middle Level Education from Eastern, a MS in Reading & Language Arts from Eastern and a 6th year degree in Educational Leadership from Central. She is certified to teach grades 4-8 in both Math and LA and holds her administration certification. Recently, Mrs. Gwinnell has been accepted into Uconn's Executive Leadership program where she is persuing her Superintendent's certification.

Student Principal's Advisory Group: Students in 8th grade are chosen by their teachers to serve on the Principal's advisory group. The purpose of the group is to advise and assist the principal in cordinating interesting events and opportunities for Porter students.  Some events have included the Pep Rally, Porter Pride Assemblies, Spirit weeks, and Bead Buddies. We meet about once a month during lunch.  This year's advisory group includes: Ali Bawabe, Patrick Bonnefant,
Hayley Crim, Justin Desaulets, Lucas Jones, Baelen Kaufmann, Madi Lemire, and Peter Swenson.
