Horace W. Porter

Visual Arts Curriculum

Students in middle school art at Horace Porter participate in creating a wide range of art media and genres.
Students use plaster, paper-mache, clay, graphite drawing pencils, colored pencil, acrylic and tempera paints, watercolor, chalk and oil pastel, and mixed media. They learn perspective drawing, life drawing, and participate in group projects and critiques. Open-ended projects allow students to devise their own subject matter and apply his/her own connection and interpretation to the project. Students are encouraged to build their portfolio of work throughout grades 5-8.
