EVERY STUDENT SUCCEEDS ACT: ESSA & THE ARTS
The United States Senate passed the “Every Student Succeeds Act” (ESSA) [S. 1177], reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. ESSA includes the arts alongside math and language arts in its definition of a "well-rounded education." Arts education programs and teachers are now eligible to receive federal funds through provisions such as Title I and Title II. The new law also includes funding for integrating arts into STEM education, as well as a $20 million grant program for arts education.
