Curriculum and Instruction
Curriculum and Instruction Overview
In short, curriculum is WHAT students are learning and instruction is HOW they learn it. The Columbia School District curriculum is aligned with the CT Core Standards. We work to continually improve teaching and learning with the help of our Teaching and Learning Specialist and Content Area Coaches. Together, these leaders support our faculty and students to realize their full potential.
Dr. Kate Rutledge is our Teaching and Learning Specialist . Kate received a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from Harvard's Graduate School of Education. She has worked as a senior consultant in New York providing professional learning and embedded coaching to school leaders and teachers in elementary schools. She has also worked as an elementary teacher in CT and NY, an education specialist, a principal, and a network special education manager. At Columbia School District, Kate’s work is connected to strengthening core curriculum, SRBI, data analysis, and instructional practices.
Columbia School District also has two Content Area Coaches who provide instruction and intervention support. Dawn Bedard is our Math Coach and Kristen Maltese is our Literacy Coach.
