Our Facilities Director is Michael Sylvester. Mr. Sylvester ensures Horace W. Porter School facilities meet state and federal requirements. He is responsible for ensuring our buildings provide a safe learning environment for students.

Recognition

Columbia Distict Asbestos Contol Policy

The Columbia School District maintains an Asbestos Management Program as required by the State of Connecticut Department of Health Public 19a-333-3(b) of the Connecticut State Regulations.  Inspections are performed by an accredited and licensed inspector/management planner within the State of Connecticut.  

H.W. Porter School is re-inspected every three  years in accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), Environmental Protection Agency 40 CFR Part 763 Asbestos Containing Materials in Schools; Final Rule and Notice and the State of Connecticut Asbestos Containing Materials in School Section 19a-333-1 through 13 of the Regulations of CT state Agencies (RCSA), CT Department of Health.

Green Cleaning

The State of Connecticut requires that each local and regional board of education implement a green cleaning program for all school buildings and facilities. The Columbia School District is committed to the implementation of this law.
